The short answer
Odoo becomes the operational center of the OTTO business.
At its core, the connector connects three recurring processes: It takes OTTO orders to Odoo, provides available stock for OTTO, and reports shipping and tracking information back.
Returns, documents, payment reconciliation, and special mappings can be added. Which extensions make sense depends on the OTTO process, the Odoo configuration, and the data used.
Visible data flows
What is transferred between OTTO Market and Odoo
A connector is robust when the direction, trigger, and target of each data flow are clear. The following overview separates the core from project-dependent expansion.
| Process | Direction | Processing | Classification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orders | OTTO → Odoo | Orders and items are taken over for sales, inventory, and shipping in Odoo. | Core process |
| Stocks | Odoo → OTTO | Available quantities are provided from the agreed Odoo inventory logic. | Core process |
| Shipping & Tracking | Odoo → OTTO | Shipping status, carrier, and tracking information are reported from the Odoo delivery process. | Core process |
| Returns | OTTO ↔ Odoo | Return announcement and professional return processing are represented according to the agreed procedure. | Process-dependent |
| Documents & Payments | OTTO → Odoo | Existing OTTO documents can be imported, assigned, or used for reconciliation. | Project-dependent |
The operational core
Three processes that must fit together in daily operations
Orders in Odoo
New OTTO orders are taken over with the required items and references. Further processing takes place in the existing Odoo workflows for sales, inventory, and delivery.
Inventory from Odoo
Odoo remains the agreed source for available quantities. Which storage locations, reservations, or safety stocks count will be determined professionally before go-live.
Shipping to OTTO
After delivery, the connector transmits the required shipping and tracking data. Incorrect or incomplete information must remain visible and correctable.
Properly delineate returns
Announcement, inspection, and reimbursement are not the same process.
OTTO technically distinguishes between announced returns and the actual return decision. A return shipment initially informs that goods have been sent back. Only in the return process is it decided whether a return is accepted or rejected.
For the Odoo implementation, this means: goods receipt, inspection, credit or refund, and feedback to OTTO must be planned as a coherent but controlled process. The specific degree of automation will therefore be defined in the project.
Standard and Extension
The scope of services will be definitively delineated before the setup.
The connector is not a black box with unlimited functionality promises. We document which data flows are core and which requirements need additional configuration or extension.
Typical core scope
- Import of OTTO orders into Odoo
- Assignment of products and order data
- Inventory transfer from a defined Odoo logic
- Shipping confirmation with carrier and tracking
- Logging and traceable error handling
Project-dependent extensions
- Returns acceptance, inspection, and refund
- OTTO documents and their linking in Odoo
- Payment reconciliation and special booking logics
- Individual storage, tax, or shipping rules
- Supplementary fields, transformations, and special processes
Before the project starts
What prerequisites must be met for the connection
- An active and suitable seller account at OTTO Market
- Access to OTTO Partner Connect and a configured API user
- A technically accessible, appropriately configured Odoo system
- Unique product references for mapping between both systems
- Defined inventory, shipping, returns, and accounting processes
- Test data and responsible contacts for acceptance
OTTO also specifies requirements for seller companies, including a German legal form and a German company location as well as a separate German VAT ID. The current participation conditions should be checked directly with OTTO before the technical project.
Setup and go-live
From data flow to controlled commissioning
Define processes
We capture which data is needed, which systems are leading, and which functions belong to the core or an extension.
Assign fields and rules
Products, status values, inventory logic, shipping service providers, and other mandatory information are mapped between OTTO and Odoo.
Test with realistic cases
Test orders, inventory changes, shipping notifications, and agreed special cases are checked before the productive start.
Monitor go-live
After activation, the first data flows are monitored. Errors must be assignable to a specific order, record, or transmission step.
Who the connector is suitable for
For merchants who do not want to operate OTTO as a separate island
The connector is particularly suitable for companies that want to consolidate orders, inventory, warehouse, shipping, and – depending on the expansion – returns or payment data in Odoo. The more operational steps are currently transferred manually between OTTO and the ERP system, the greater the benefit of a clearly defined integration.
If multiple marketplaces or shops are to be connected according to a common logic, the 4Econ Multi-API platform can be a sensible overarching approach.
Frequently Asked Questions
Odoo OTTO Connector explained concisely
Which OTTO data is connected to Odoo by default?
The typical core includes order import to Odoo, the transfer of defined inventories to OTTO, as well as shipping and tracking feedback. The binding scope is defined before the project starts.
Can the connector fully automate OTTO returns?
Returns consist of several steps – from the announced return to inspection and goods receipt to credit or refund. These steps can be supported; the specific degree of automation depends on the agreed Odoo process.
Can payments and OTTO documents be processed in Odoo?
The existing connector can be expanded to include the import, linking, and reconciliation of suitable OTTO documents. Number ranges, accounting, and allocation rules must be professionally reviewed.
Are products also transferred from Odoo to OTTO?
This revision does not promise a general product data export as a standard feature. If product data or additional OTTO interfaces are needed, we will examine the data model, mandatory fields, and desired scope separately.
What is needed for the setup?
Specifically required are a suitable OTTO seller access with API user, an accessible Odoo system, unique product references, as well as established inventory, shipping, and return processes.
